Wire to wire win for Havret in Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles

Grégory Havret has recorded a superb win in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, The Frenchman carded a final round of 70 to finish the tournament 14 under par.

Havret birdied the second but dropped shots on the 3rd and 5th however an eagle on the 9th moved him back into contention, further birdies on the 14th and 16th sealed a deserved victory, his third on the European PGA Tour the most recent being the 2007 The Barclays Scottish Open.

Graeme Storm from England lived up to his name and stormed into contention with 7 birdies in the last ten holes in his 68, for a while he was clubhouse leader but finally succumbed to the cool play of Havret who beat him by one stroke.

England’s David Howell and Peter Hansen of Sweden finished two further shots behind on -11 to tie for 3rd place.

Justin Rose and Marcel Siem finished in 5th at 10 under, this guarantees Rose one of the remaining Ryder Cup places along with Oliver Wilson and Soren Hansen who both were amongst the eight golfers tied for 10th place.

Wilson has the distinction of being the first European Ryder Cup team member never to have won on the tour.
