Westwood WDs from WGC
Englishman Lee Westwood, who could have ascended to Number One in the Official World Golf Rankings with a win at the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational, has pulled out of the event, citing that bothersome calf muscle that’s been the bane of his 2010 year.
Westwood withdrew after shooting 76 on Friday, leaving Firestone Country Club to seek out a specialist. Westwood finished second at The Open Championship at St. Andrews last month, but reported to be in more and more pain ever since.
The injury will keep him out of next week’s U.S. PGA Championship. He may be able to return for the Ryder Cup, being held Oct. 1-6 at Celtic Manor.
