Watson and Marino share the lead in 2009 Open – Woods Out
More great golf at Turnberry in the second round of the 2009 Open, Steve Marino who is making his Open Championship debut shares the lead after 36 holes with fellow American, 5 times Open Champion, Tom Watson at 5 under par, Marino had a mixed round with 4 bogies 4 birdies and an eagle in his 2 under par 68, Watson continued to roll back the years with a level par round to build on his fine performance on day one although it needed all his experience after dropping 4 strokes on the first seven holes he clawed them back in style with a flawless back nine.
Mark Calcavecchia sits one stroke off the lead on -4 and overnight leader Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez is one of 5 golfers on three under along with England’s Ross Fisher who is carrying the flag for the home nations.
Reigning Champion Padraig Harrington is 8 shots adrift on 3 over after a 74, but that is better than World number one Tiger Woods who also shot 74 but became the highest profile casualty at 5 over just missing the cut along with Ben Curtis who had been in second place overnight but shot a 10 over par 80 to undo his good work.
