Top 5 US Masters Golf Champions of All Time Ever

Top 5 US Masters Golf Champions of All Time Ever

The US Masters starts on Thursday (10th April 2008), I have given it some thought and this is my definitive list of the Best US Masters Golf Champions Ever!

1) Jack Nicklaus

It has to be the “Great Bear” at number one arguably the best golfer of all time; his haul of 18 major titles has not been beaten yet! Won in his golden era of 25 years at the top. The US Masters at Augusta was a particular favourite of Nicklaus, he won his first tile in 1963 when only 22 and won his last in 1986 at the age of 46. He gets my vote for the length of time he has been at the top.

2) Tiger Woods

Any Top 10 list or Top 5 list of golfers would not be complete without Eldrick Woods, or as he is better known Tiger Woods. Tiger misses out on top spot just due to his age, I am sure by the time he finishes playing he will be my top US Masters player ever. Tiger is only 31 but he has already tamed Augusta 4 times, who knows how many he will get by the time he hangers up his clubs.

3) Nick Faldo

Nick Faldo is one of a select few players to win back-to-back Green Jackets. Faldo managed this in 1989 and 1990. The only others to do this are Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Faldo also won a third masters in 1996, and in total he won 6 majors. He is 4th on the all time Masters winners list.

4) Jose Maria Olazabal

Olazabal is one of the classiest golfers ever, and one of the best to come from the European mainland. The Spaniard first won the US Masters in 1994, in doing so became the first player to win a major after winning The Amateur Championship since World War II. He gets my nod for the top 5 masters champions after he won his second title in 1999. Olazabal won the title in severe pain due to rheumatoid polyarthritis in his feet. The courage was immense to watch him win this title, he could hardly walk by the end, a true masters legend.

5) Arnold Palmer

Arnold “The King” Palmer is the grand daddy of golf and the first golf superstar, He won the US master 4 times in a golden run between 1958 and 1964. He became famous world wide at a time when golf was first being televised in the1950s. He is still popular today at the age of 78 he still will fill the galleries with people wanting to see him. Palmer made his last emotional appearance at the masters in 2004, his 50th appearance. It is unlikely any player will match that number of appearances!!

So this is my Top 5, I would love to read comments on what you think to my list do you agree with it? Also please share your top 5 lists below too.
