Sky Sports to broadcast the US Open Golf for next 6 years

The US Open Golf was one of the most thrilling golf tournaments ever, and the winner was not found until tiger woods got par on the 91st hole. Sky Sports showed extensive live coverage of all 5 rounds. Sky Sports today announced that they have been awarded the Exclusive Live rights to the US Open for the next 6 years from the US Golf Association.

The new US Open TV Coverage deal will run from 2008 to 2014 and will extend Sky’s relationship with the USGA to over 20 years.

The new live golf coverage gives the UK Sports Channel exclusive live broadcast rights to the US Open Women’s Championship, US Senior Open Championship, US Amateur Championships, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup and the US Junior Amateur championships until the end of 2014.

MAJORS – The Deal with Give Sky live coverage of the US Open until 2014 and the US PGA Champiobship until 2016.

THE RYDER CUP – Sky will be showing the next 3 Ryder Cups, starting with Valhalla in Kentucky and then the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor Wales in and then the 2012 Ryder Cup back in the US in
Medinah, Illinois.

WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP – The World Golf Championship comprises 4 tournaments each season : the Accenture Matchplay, CA Championship and Bridgestone Invitational plus Omega Mission Hills World Cup

EUROPEAN TOUR – Sky will continue to show the European PGA tour with 32 live tournaments including the European Open, Dubai Desert Classic, and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Sky will show these until 2012.

On top of this Sky have coverage of The Solheim Cup, Seve Trophy, Walker Cup and events from the Champions Tour, the LPGA Tour and Amateur Tours.
