Perfect conditions on the Tournament Course at Redstone Golf Club saw the course record broken by two players.

It was deja vu in the Shell Houston Open as last years winner Australian Adam Scott resumed from where he left off, Scott carded a 9 under par bogey free 63 a new course record with 9 birdies.

Joining Scott on pole is Texan Johnson Wagner who recorded 7 birdies plus an eagle 3 on the eighth, Wagner held the previous record of 64 along with Bubba Watson.

What is even more remarkable about Scott’s round is that he had to leave his sick bed to make the tee time, suffering from fever and swollen glands around his throat, immediately after completing his record breaking round he consulted a doctor, what could he have achieved if he had been fully fit?

Golfing News tip Bubba Watson is currently in a share of ninth place 5 shots behind after shooting a 68.

Blustery winds in the afternoon saw higher scores being posted, Phil Mickelson shot a 72.
