Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth Captures Madeira Open

Scottish golfer Alastair Forsyth and Hennie Otto of South Africa battled out a nail biting play-off in the Madeira Islands Open, Forsyth with nerves of steel prevailed on the first extra hole.

Gong into the final round Otto was four shots ahead of Forsyth however a round of 67 saw the 32-year-old Scot put pressure on the South African by drawing level.

Forsyth maintained his excellent form and birdied the first extra hole to take the spoils.

England’s Gary Clark in third place four shots behind the leading pair on 11 under.

It was the first win for Forsyth’s on the European Tour since his victory in the Malaysian Open in 2002.
