Phenomenal Karlsson Smashes Course Record To Take Charge In Italian Open

Sweden’s Robert Karlsson played a phenomenal 11 under par 61, smashing the course record into the bargain, to open up a two shot lead in the Methorios Capital Italian Open at Milan’s Castello di Tolcinasco G & CC.

What is even more remarkable is that Karlsson’s amazing round included a bogey on the 13th (Karlsson’s 4th) although that was more than compensated for by the 8 birdies and two eagles.

Karlsson carded a four under par 68 in the first round and now is -15 after 36 holes, just one shot behind the tournament’s lowest ever 36 hole score set by Ian Poulter in 2002.

South African Hennie Otto and England’s Mark Foster are locked together in second place on -13 both having had rounds of 66 to go with the 65’s they carded on Thursday.

Due to perfect conditions on the first two days low scores have been abundant and its projected that -4 will be needed to make the cut.
