Perry, Cabrera tied for lead heading into Sunday at the Masters
Two big, accurate hitters enter the final round tied for the Masters lead, and all that stands between them and their first Green Jacket is 18 holes — 18 of some of the toughest holes in their lives.
Kenny Perry and Angel Cabrera are tied at 11-under par after three rounds, and the two quiet, charismatic players will duel Sunday in the final group. Cabrera, from Argentina, has already scored a major title, the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont. He claimed his share of the 54-hole lead with birdies on 15 and 17 that iced a 3-under 69 on Saturday.
Perry, a hero of last year’s victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team, began the day tied for the lead, and spent the day swapping it with Chad Campbell all day Saturday. Campbell led by as many as 2 strokes on the back nine before Perry birdied No. 13 on the way to a 70, and Campbell found a greenside bunker on 16, left it in there and made double-bogey. Campbell finished with a bogey on 18 to finish at 9-under after a 70.
He will play in the next-to-last group with Jim Furyk, who fashioned a 68 on Saturday to finish at 8-under, 3 off the lead.
Steve Stricker is at 7-under, and the trio of Todd Hamilton, Shingo Katayama and Rori Sabbatini at 5 off the lead at 6-under. That puts eight players within five shots on the lead going into the final 18 holes.
World Number One and Two, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are each at 4-under par, noteworthy because they will play together in Sunday’s final round.
