Ogilvy keeps the lead in Hawaii
It was bound to happen — Geoff Ogilvy made a bogey on Friday.
The Australian 3-putted the final two holes at Kapalua Plantation, bogeying 17 and parring the par-5 18th, but he still carries a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Invational, the opening stop on the 2009 PGA TOUR open only to event winners from 2008.
Ogilvy shot a 68 Friday and at 11-under holds a one-shot lead over American D.J. Trahan, who carded seven birdies and an eagle on the way to a 7-under 66. Ogilvy birdied five of six holes in the middle of the round and made the turn at 5-under.
Ernie Els, fighting a balky driver in both rounds, carded a 69 and is two shots back. A shot behind him, a gaggle of players reside at 7-under: Japan’s Ryuji Imada and Americans Sean O’Hair, Kenny Perry, Johnson Wagner and Davis Love III. Boo Weekley could have joined that group, but he inexplicably four-putted the 18th green and is at 6-under with Aussie Adam Scott.
Defending FedEx Cup champion Vijay Singh (even par) is 11 shots back in 22nd after twin 73s.
