Neumann to captain the Solheim Cup team
The captain for the European Team has been announced, and Sweden’s Liselotte Neumann will get the honour with Joanne Morley of England being her assistant. The American Team have already confirmed that their team will be captained by Meg Mallon and Kelly Robbins as her assistants. America are the current holders of the cup having beaten Europe in Halmstad, Sweden last September.
When is the Solheim Cup?
The Solheim Cup takes place between August 21-23, 2008 at Rich Harvest Farms Illinois in the US. The European team will be hoping that they can win in American for the first time.
So what is the Solheim Cup?
The Solheim Cup is the ladies version of the Ryder Cup, it is played every two years between America and Europe in team matchplay conditions. It is the pinancle of womens golf.
The teams are picked from the top 12 european born players from the Ladies European Tour ( LET) and their equilvents from the LPGA in the US. It has been played since 1990. To be picked player gain points from places in tournaments between the events.
The solheim weekend is made up of 28 matches, including eight foursome matches, eight four-ball matches and 12 singles matches on the critical final day.
