McDowell Wins 2008 Barclays Scottish Open
Graeme McDowell has emerged victorious at Loch Lomond winning the The Barclays Scottish Open 2008, a cheque for £500,000 and almost certainly a place in Europe’s Ryder Cup team too.
McDowell from Northern Ireland kept a cool head and his exemplary iron play was matched by his fine use of the putter.
A three under par 68 was all that was needed to give McDowell a 13 under par total of 271 and victory by two strokes, what really set his round on fire was 3 consecutive birdies on the 13th,14th and 15th which saw him take over the lead from playing partner Simon Khan who suffered a collapse carding double bogeys on the 12th and 17th, consolation for Khan is that his 9 under par total means qualification for next week’s British Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Going in to the last all Graeme McDowell needed was a bogey 5 for victory however a wonderful second shot of almost 200 meters with his 7 iron gave him a birdie chance, he finished off safely 2 putting for a memorable win.
A 66 by South African James Kingston gave him second place on 11 under par.
A further stroke behind came a tie for third spot between Australian Richard Green and the consistent Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez.
