Leonard takes Stanford St. Jude Championship after playoff
At the Stanford St. Jude Championship in Memphis Tennessee Justin Leonard looked to be sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard on five under when he bogeyed the 17th and just missed birdie on the last this put him in the clubhouse tied with Australia’s Robert Allenby who had earlier shot a five under par 65 to move up from 23rd place.
As the two leaders prepared for their playoff they hadn’t reckoned with Masters winner Trevor Immelman who came with a storming late run, birdie, birdie, and an amazing 23 foot birdie on the 18th to set up a three way playoff.
First playoff hole was the 18th and the trio all got safely in the cup for par, they then moved on to the par 3 11th, all three players had good shots off the tee, Allenby putted first his 20 footer missed by a good 12 inches to the right, Leonard putted in from 19 feet the ball slowing right down almost to a standstill before dropping into the cup for birdie, finally Immelman just missed his putt from 11 feet to give Leonard the Championship.
