Many golf fans will remember the The Open Championship in 1998, when 17 year old amateur Justin Rose holed from the rough at the 18th for birdie and a tie for fourth place.

Shortly after being thrust into the public eye for that remarkable feat in the British Open Rose turned professional, however all was not plain sailing , he struggled at first and missed 21 consecutive cuts.

Eventually the dismal run came to an end and Rose became firmly established on the European Tour, his first professional win came in 2002 when he captured the Dunhill Championship in South Africa, this was soon followed by victory in the Victor Chandler British Masters and two further events also in the same year.

2003 saw Justin rise to 33 in the Official World Golf Rankings, 2004 saw him mainly playing on the US PGA Tour, however his form took a dive and he slipped out of the top 50 in the World Rankings.

In 2005 Rose chose to quit Europe and play exclusively on the PGA, unfortunately for him he was still finishing well down the field and eventually dropped from the top 100, this made him announce that he was planning to return to European competition, however fortune turned in his favour in August 2005 when he lead the Buick Championship after 54 holes eventually finishing third. A couple more decent results followed in the Autumn of 2005 and Justin remained on the PGA circuit.

2006 brought a good result in the Canadian Open, 2nd place at the Disney Resort tournament and in November a long awaited win in the Australian Masters, to his first title for four years.

The good form continued into 2007 a top 5 finish at the 2007 Masters put him up to the dizzy heights of 26 in the World Rankings. Second place at the 2007 BMW PGA Championship, lost playoff, put him into the top twenty of the World Rankings for the first time. a

Rose won the European Tour Order of Merit title for 2007 when he capped the season with a playoff win in the Volvo Masters.

Justin Rose is currently the top ranked European golfer at sixth place in the World Rankings.

      1. I am cheering on the English Rose, was great to see him do so well, I heard in commentary that he has moved to Florida. I wish him well.

As you wrote I still remember him as the 17 year old at the open, he has grown up lots since then.

Does anyone think he can win the masters this weekend.
