Johnnie Walker Championship Final Round Tee Times Ryder Cup Standings

The Johnnie Walker Championship 2008 Final round is set to be a tense affair. The event in Gleneagles is critical to all players who want to play in the Ryder Cup, as it is the last event which counts towards Team Europe Ryder Cup qualification.
After the finish of the Johnnie Walker Championship Nick Faldo will name his European Team for the Ryder Cup including his two captains wild card picks.
Six Players are still in contention to qualify for team europe competing for the last 3 qualifying place
in Europe’s Ryder Cup team at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
Justin Rose, Soren Hansen and Oliver Wilson occupy the last three automatic places

What the players just outside the top 10 automatic spots had to do to get in the Ryder Cup Team

Kaymer (11th)needed to finish 11th but he missed the cut so his Ryder Cup dream is over unless he gets a wild card.
Poulter (12th) He is playing in the Fedex Cup in the US so is relying on a Wild Card
Fisher (13th) – He need to finish 3rd to squeeze into the Ryder Cup team, but at the end of round 3 he is placed 46th on par a massive 9 shots off 3rd place, a very tall order!!
Dougherty (14th) – Missed the cut so his Ryder Cup race is also over.

Who should Nick Faldo Pick as His Wild Cards ?

Justin Rose, Soren Hansen and Oliver Wilson all made the cut so only Fisher can upset the apple cart but he is a long shot, top 10 places for Ryder Cup looks pretty much settled now,
Who do you think should get the wild cards? Casey or Poulter who have played lots in the US, and the Ryder Cup will be played on US soil, or do you go for Ryder Cup Veterens Darren Clarke ( who won the KLM last week) or Colin Montgomerie who has an amazing Ryder Cup record but can he still perform at the top level? We would love your views on who Faldo Should Pick please comment below.

      1. i’m certainly not up on all the details but in my humble opinion, why pick poulter? he has shown that earning the right to play in the team is not an option he wishes to take and if this is not enough to make him want to compete then he hasn’t shown the passion that is needed for the ryder cup. form is one thing but experience is also required and certainly montgomerie and clarke have this, as well as bags of commitment to the cause. but should he leave out a form player to prove a point?
Faldo can’t win, he’ll be lambasted one way or another, but he should remember, performance can come one week and leave the next, passion and experience don’t.

      2. I hope Clarke gets in not Montgomerie though he totally out of form, Fisher would be my choice.

      3. Richie thanks for your comment, I like Poulter and I have a feeling he will thrive on the Ryder Cup Pressure, Matchplay would suit him.
Poulter has made a career decision he played in the US as he needs to play a certain number of matches to retain his US Tour Card. He has been quite candid in saying this is what he is doing. This decision could lose him a Ryder Cup pick, I would have prefered it if he had managed to qualify or at least tried to by playing in UK this weekend.

I think Clarke will get a pick, he has form by winning the KLM and he has ryder cup experience, who can forget how he played last time out, weeks after losing his beloved wife.

Monty I would not pick as he has the experience but he is so off form, that said in Matchplay even if he triple bogeys one hole it is only 1 point lost he can make it up on the next hole.

I undetstand Faldo likes Casey I can see him getting a pick with clarke.

As you say Faldo will get slated whatever he does!!

      4. Poulter has the bulldog attitude you need for match play, and Clarke is a vet who is playing very well now.
