Havret clings onto lead after thrilling third round of the Johnnie Walker Classic

The third round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles was an absolute thriller Grégory Havret shot a 69 to retain his 1 shot lead despite the efforts of Anthony Wall who carded an 8 under par 65.

Frenchman Havret now stands at 11 under par for the event after another eventful round, he made an early breakthrough with a magnificent eagle at the 2nd, birdies at the 9th, 12th and 14th kept him at the head of affairs dispite a bogey on 13, then for the second day running disaster struck on the 15th another double bogey 6 put him a stoke behind the clubhouse leader, he recovered in style with birdies on the 16th and 18th to regain his lead with a 4 under par round of 69.

England’s Anthony Wall was one of two golfers to have the accolade of lowest round of the day, his round of 65, 8 under par included an astonishing ten birdies and it moves him up to second place one stroke behind the leader.

A further shot behind there is a 5 way tie for third place on -9, the quintet are Lee Westwood, Ricardo Gonzalez, Søren Hansen, David Howell and Marcel Siem.

Ryder Cup hopeful Justin Rose has also played himself into contention a 67 in the third round puts him in a share of eighth place 3 shots adrift of Havret.
