Garrido Still Leading Spanish Open – Jiménez Closes Gap
Spain’s Ignacio Garrido still leads the Open de España at Real Club de Golf de Sevilla however Saturday’s level par 72 was a bit more sedate than the -9 he carded in the second round.
Garrido’s birdies on the 5th and 16th were canceled out by bogeys on the 13th and 18th so he remains on -15 for the tournament.
A workman like 5 under par 67 from Garrido’s compatriot Miguel Angel Jiménez puts him up to second place and in a strong position going into tomorrows final round just 3 shots behind the leader.
England’s Mark Foster and Switzerland’s Soren Hanson along with Marco Ruis of Paraguay are a further shot back in third place after carding 68, 67 and 69 respectively.
A nightmare double bogey on the 10th by first round leader Martin Erlandsson led to him shooting a one over par 73, he has now dropped to 10 under and a share of sixth place.
Round of the day went to English amateur Danny Willett who shot a 8 under par 64 which included eight birdies and an eagle 3 on the par 5 9th, Willet has shot up the leaderboard to stand at -9 for the tournament, a share of eleventh place.
