Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano has won the Quinn Insurance British Masters at the Belfry after he defeated defending champion Lee Westwood on the third hole of a nail biting sudden death playoff.

The Spaniard began his final round three strokes in arrears of the defending champion however a magnificent round of 67, that was bogey free, brought him level with Westwood on a 12 under par total of 276.

The light was fading rapidly when on the third extra hole Westwood bogeyed after finding the rough with his second shot, Fernandez-Castano took full advantage and parred the hole to chalk up his fourth European PGA Tour win.
