Faldo’s Failures - Ryder Cup Stars Miss Cut At Sawgrass
A host of top European golfers, many of which are expected to line up in the Ryder Cup, failed to make the cut in The Players Championship at the Stadium Course, Sawgrass in Florida.
Europe’s Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo is sure to be in a bit of a quandary after many of his star players were given an early exit.
World number ten Justin Rose, Open Champion Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Niclas Fasth and Paul Casey all failed to make the grade as 35 mph winds made playing conditions extremely difficult.
Harrington, who has finished second in the event twice, hit 6 bogeys in the last seven holes of his second round, and Rose missed his third cut in a row citing a recurring back problem.
Players still carrying the torch for Europe include veteran Bernhard Langer, who has won twice on the Champions Tour in this his debut year, and Sergio Garcia who ended the third round at Sawgrass in third place.
