South African golfer Ernie Els has announced that he plans relocate to the US and live permanently in Florida.

The main reason behind this planned move is the fact that it will be easier to get care for his six year old son, Ben, who has autism.

An added bonus of this move is that the warmer climate of south Florida is more suitable for winter golf than his current home at Wentworth Golf Club.

In a statement Els said:

“For me to stay in England in the off-season is tough for me to do, I’m a guy from South Africa. I love the sun. I can’t see myself sitting in the cold for three or fourth months. I don’t like that. I’ve always been comfortable down here. The schools for Ben, especially… there’s really good stuff happening over here for him (In Florida). All in all, I think it will be a good move.”

Two weeks ago Els revealed that Ben is autistic, he has plans to get heavily involved raising money for research and awareness of autism. His golf bag now carries an Autism Speaks logo.
