Defending Champ Westwood Leads The Way In Andalucia
It was the best possible start for England’s Lee Westwood at Aloha Golf Club in the MAPFRE Open de Andalucia by Valle Romano, the defending champion carded a bogey free 65 to take the first round lead on 7 under, a shot ahead of English Amateur Danny Willett and Norway’s Jan-Are Larsen.
The highlights of Westwood’s round were 18 foot birdie putts on his first and last holes, he had 7 birdies in all.
Hot on Westwood’s heels is fellow Englishman Danny Willett, ranked number one amateur in the world, Willett recently won the Spanish Amateur Championship. This is his maiden European Tour tournament and he carded two eagles in his 6 under par 66.
Joining Willett in second place is Jan-Are Larsen who might have had a share of the lead but for a bogey on the seventeenth.
