Dean Wilson leads after day one of Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Dean Wilson was the top performed on day one of the Zurich Classic, as the PGA Tour touched down in New Orleans. Wilson carded a six under par 66 to finish the day, one short ahead of the rest of the field. Dean completed 7 birdies and a bogey was the only blemish to his round. Dean has played 8 tournaments in 2008 and only made the cut on 3 occasions, so he will be hoping to have a similar round tomorrow, to obtain his 4th cut of the season.
Briny Baird staked an early claim for shot of the match, he managed to whole his approach shot on the 6th a full 208 yards out , which earnt him an Eagle, he continued his good form finishing with 4 birdies, as well as that amazing Eagle, finishing his round -5 on 67 and in 2nd place on the leaderboard.
Defending champion Nick Watney made a faltering start of his defense, carding a one under par 71, his round was not helped by a double bogey at the 12th, and a bogey at the 9th, 4 birdies ensured that Watney got into the clubhouse under par.
The course was a challenge for most of the field with the average 72. The average drive distance was 279 yards, but Bubba Watson managed to average a monster 318 yards, the toughest hole was 6 and the next hole 7 played the easiest.
