Darren Clarke Wins 2008 BMW Asian Open in Shanghai

Third round leader Darren Clarke clung on to his slender lead to take the 2008 BMW Asian Open by one shot, thanks to a monster 25 foot birdie on the 18th.

This was Clarke’s first European tour title for five years.

Conditions at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Course were not as ideal as they had been on Saturday and only eleven players were under par in the final round.

Northern Ireland’s Clarke hit a one over par 73 which included four bogeys to end the tournament on 280, 8 under par.

Second place went to Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen who also shot a 73, he will no doubt be considering the 14th hole as the one that cost him the tournament as he carded a double bogey there to go with bogeys on the same hole in rounds two and three.

European Tour rookie Robert Dinwiddie shot a 74 to end the tournament on -5 and a share of third place, his best ever tour result, also tied fir third were Francesco Molinari and Lin Wen-Tang.
