Bourdy  who led the tournament from start to finish has finally won the Estoril Open de Portugal after the third play off hole.   Bourdy was seemingly coasting to victory after round 3,  he had a 4 shot lead and had only dropped one shot all weekend.
Bourdy posted his worst round of the week with a  70,  and with Forsyth making up his 4 shot deficit with a 66 and Howell pulling out a 64.  All 3 were on 266 after 72 holes,  and they went to a nailbitting playoff.    The first play off hole ( hole 18) was par by all 3,  then on the 2nd playoff hole Forsyth hit a bogey 5 and was knocked out.   This left Howell and Bourdy playing the 17th,  this time Howell felt the pressure and bogeyed, leaving Bourdy to just Par the hole for the title.

The Portuguese Open really should not have gone to a play off as Bourdy had only made 1 bogey all week so a another solid round would have won him the title.  Maybe the pressure of playing a round for the title was too much as his front 9 included 3 bogeys,   and no birdies.   I don’t know what was said to him at the turn, but his back 9 was amazing with 4 birdies,  but this was not enough to win it outright.

So Bourdy finally won through for his 2nd European Tour Win, and the Estoril Open de Portugal  winners prize money of €208,330.00,  which I am sure made that playoff stress easier to cope with.
