BMW Asian Open 2008 – Preview
The PGA European Tour is still in China, this week it is the 2008 BMW Asian Open at Tomson Shanghai Pudong GC, Shanghai, China.
The Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Course is par 72 with a combined yardage of 7300 yards (6674m). The course comprises four par threes, ten par fours and 4 par fives.
Leading contenders for the tournament include reigning champion Raphaël Jacquelin, Retief Goosen and Henrik Stenson.
Raphaël Jacquelin will be looking to continue the good recent French form on The European Tour with a successful defence, the last three regular European Tour events have seen France record two wins. Thomas Levet capured the MAPFRE Open de Andalucia by Valle Romano and Grégory Bourdy won the Estoril Open de Portugal
Retief Goosen is hoping to finally add a BMW title to his portfolio when he makes his second appearance in the BMW Asian Open. Goosen finished joint 15th on his first appearance at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club last year.
Henrik Stenson will be aiming to regain the lead on The European Tour Order of Merit when he returns to action in China this week. Stenson is back in Shanghai on unfinished business after a near miss two years ago, he led the 2006 BMW Asian Open after three rounds and moved three clear of the field with ten holes to play, however problems off the tee on the ninth lead to a triple bogey eight. After losing the lead he battled back and birdied the last to force a play-off with Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño, but the Spaniard emerged victorious after chipping in at the first extra hole for a winning birdie.
